Viking Cottage Akureyri

Viking Cottage Akureyri is a comfortable standalone house located just a short distance from our other houses, offering a peaceful and private stay surrounded by the Icelandic landscape.

The house features a fully equipped kitchenette, with a microwave instead of an oven, and a modern living area with direct access to a private terrace and the beautiful surroundings outside.

The living area includes a flat-screen TV, a Harman Kardon home audio system with Bluetooth connection, free Wi-Fi, and a washing machine. A private BBQ is also available for outdoor cooking and dining throughout the year.

The private terrace features a hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring while enjoying the surrounding landscape, sunsets, and clear Icelandic skies.

The bedroom features a comfortable queen-size bed for two guests. With an additional guest bed, the house can accommodate a maximum of 3 guests.

Made-up beds, towels, and bed linen are included with your stay. A baby bed is also available upon request.

Viking Cottage Akureyri sits in Vaðlaheiði, on the eastern side of Eyjafjörður, just a few minutes’ drive from downtown Akureyri. The location gives you the best of both worlds: enough distance from town to enjoy real quiet and open views over the fjord and mountains, but close enough that you’re never far from restaurants, shops, or the airport. In summer the surrounding hillside turns green and the midnight sun keeps the sky bright well past midnight, while in winter the same hillside becomes one of the easier places nearby to watch the northern lights dance overhead.

Inside, the house is designed to feel like a proper home rather than a hotel room. The kitchenette has everything you need to cook a real meal, the living area is a comfortable place to unwind after a day outdoors, and the private hot tub on the terrace is easily the most popular spot in the evening, especially with a view of the stars or the northern lights overhead.

Akureyri itself is worth exploring on its own, with cafés and restaurants like Brauðgerðarhús, KetilKaffi and Strikið, plus the geothermal sea baths at GeoSea overlooking the fjord. A little further afield, whale watching boats leave regularly from Hauganes, local stables offer horseback tours on Icelandic horses, and the Diamond Circle route connects some of North Iceland’s best-known waterfalls, craters and black sand beaches. Many guests use Viking Cottage Akureyri as a base for day trips in every direction, returning each evening to cook, relax in the hot tub, and plan the next day’s adventure.

Free parking is available right at the house, and check-in times are flexible, just let us know when you’re arriving. Whether you’re staying a couple of nights or using it as a base for a longer trip around North Iceland, Viking Cottage Akureyri offers a private, comfortable place to come back to at the end of each day.

Viking Cottage Akureyri is popular with couples looking for a romantic getaway as well as small families who want more space and privacy than a hotel room. Because it’s a standalone house rather than a shared building, you get full use of the terrace and hot tub to yourselves, with no other guests coming and going through common areas. The house is cleaned and prepared between every stay, and previous guests regularly mention how quiet and restful the setting is compared to staying in the middle of town, while still being close enough to Akureyri that reaching restaurants, shops or the airport takes only a few minutes by car. If you’re travelling with a car, the drive out to Vaðlaheiði only takes a few minutes from the town centre, and there’s ample room to park right outside the door.
